This podcast goes way beyond the realm of education and is relevant in all forms of leadership. I never really considered the importance of clearly communicating my decision making process. It makes good sense that this helps build trust in the system and in my leadership. The 1,2,3 decision making strategy is so easy, and yet I’m betting many good leaders have overlooked this sort of thing that could move them from good to great leadership (myself included). One of my greatest takeaways here is the effect this strategy has. It allows those we lead the room to disagree with our decision while simultaneously understanding WHY we made the decision. In my opinion, this is how trust in our leaders is built and how collaboration grows and continues. I also strongly agree that leaders often rush to decisions (pressure?) and lose sight of what’s important. Sometimes the best decision really is to do nothing for a bit. It takes a strong leader to recognize this! We do have many issue big issues to address in education, and I’m looking forward to Dr. Rose diving deeper into each of them in future podcasts! The ones he mentions here are certainly big hurdles worthy of further discussion.
