I’m a big fan of Summit Counseling and was very happy to hear from David and Cathy today. What are the top 3 issues our kids talk about? Anxiety, anxiety, anxiety! THANK you! I couldn’t agree more. It’s not easy being a student today, and it’s certainly not anything like it was when I was growing up. The IMPLIED pressures on them to achieve, whether spoken or not, are absolutely crushing to live under. Our schools can’t do it all for us, it truly takes a village. We have limited resources and are smart to seek out partnerships that can bolster our efforts. I think the challenge is really helping people understand the importance of a program like “See something, Say something”. The program is there and built to help, but we need to get creative around getting buy in from the front line and our students to USE it. I’m also happy to see us working toward normalizing the conversation around mental health. We ARE seeing our students asking for help, and even more importantly asking for help to help a friend. We were not built to do this life alone. Humans are SUPPOSED to have a village. Society has removed the village, and it’s up to us to get people comfortable asking for the support they need in the absence of the village. For me, school safety is inextricably linked to the mental health of our students. I feel like this is often overlooked, but those wise enough to dig deeper see that we can’t call our schools “safe” without knowing our students are in good mental health and receiving the support they need. Keep spreading the good word! It’s the only way to grow this mindset!

Excellent insight. Let's spread this message to teachers & students: See something. Say something. Let's take care of each other.
